Minova’s European headquarters are in Essen, Germany.
Many of the company’s core products in resins and injectable chemicals were developed inhouse.
These pioneering products were developed to meet the challenges faced by Germany’s coal mining industry – in the past the largest in Europe by tonnage – as it turned to mining deeper and more difficult coal seams.
Today, Minova is the leading supplier of ground consolidation, rock support, cavity filling and sealing of gas and water ingress systems in Germany.
The company’s products also achieved early breakthroughs in civil engineering. Minova resins were used on the Furka Tunnel in Switzerland in 1980, the first time polyurethane resins had been applied in a major civil project.
Other milestones in product development from Germany were sewer repair systems, industrial adhesives, rigid foam systems and foaming resins.
Germany’s role in product development for Minova worldwide was strengthened recently with the decision to make Essen one of three global centres of research and development.
Global R&D for resins and injectable chemicals is now based in Germany, with cements and powders in Poland and steel products in the US.
Minova’s Essen plant manufactures resin capsules, injectable chemicals, pumps and accessories for markets across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
The company now also manufactures steel bolts in Germany following the 2008 acquisition of Berg- und Industrietechnik GmbH (BWZ), based in Bottrop. This was part of a series of acquisitions worldwide which transformed Minova from a chemical business to a chemical and steel business.
