Minova Latin America

Minova International is rapidly expanding its presence in Latin America from its regional headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The company recently acquired its first manufacturing base in the region by forming a joint venture with Imel Mining Rock Division, Chile, a metal products manufacturer established in 1946.

The joint venture began operating in March 2010 as Minova Mining Services S.A.

Minova International’s General Manager Latin America, William Mussack, says Imel’s Mining Rock Division is known as a leading manufacturer and supplier of rock bolts and ground support products, primarily to the hard rock mines and construction markets of Chile and Peru.

“We have expanded the product range by bringing in a number of the more innovative anchors such as inflatable bolts, self-drilling anchors, and fibreglass bolts.

“Minova Mining Services now also offers a wide range of cartridge and injection resins. A number of these products are manufactured in Chile, which is another sign of our commitment to the Latin American market.”

Mussack said Minova has its own steel and chemical products manufacturing along with a strong engineering applications team, unlike its major competitors.

“We have a total range of rock support solutions within one company, which represents a new level of service and convenience for customers in the region. Of course, local customers will also benefit from the high level of technical support and advice that Minova is known for worldwide.”

The Latin American region has engineers on the ground in Mexico, Colombia, and Chile to advise and help customers with their projects. It is working on alliances in Peru and setting up an international logistics network to service the entire Latin America region.

Mussack says tunneling and civil engineering projects are set to become a substantial part of the company’s business in Latin America.

“We are a major player in countries such as Switzerland and Spain, and are now bringing this expertise and specially designed products to the rapidly growing markets of South and Central America.”

Mussack, a chemical engineer with extensive experience in the construction and mining industries in the region, says he is proud of the team Minova is forming in Latin America.
